No Fear in Love

“Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be brave, be strong.”- 1 Corinthians 16:13

I’m sure we can all relate to this post. We all have fears. We’ve all had to face them at some point.  Before I start writing about "fear" I want to explain a bit the context of this subject.

The bible talks about two types of fears.
1. The Fear of God
2. The Spirit of Fear

The fear of God is a good type of fear. It's this awe or respect that we have towards him. However, the spirit of fear is a more negative, bad type of fear. This type of fear overcomes us and causes us to worry, doubt and have negative thoughts. That is what I'm going to emphasis on.

Here are three things I learned about fear:

1. Fear is a lie.
In our walk with the Lord, we will constantly be attacked by the enemy (Satan). He will do everything in his power to see us stumble and fall. We mustn’t let him win. We need to put on our spiritual armor and stand strong. Be bold. God is the only truth. Fear doesn’t come from God.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline."- 2 Timothy 1:7

2. Fear is the absent of the Truth.
The more we think about the "what ifs" we take our eyes off of the truth. The reason why we fear can also be because we lack Gods love. If Jesus is your friend, you’re shepherd, your provider and your father then you have nothing to fear. It’s good to sometimes reevaluate who God is for us.

"Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love."- 1 John 4:18

3. Fear is a choice.
Just because Satan is whispering his little lies to you, doesn’t mean you have to listen to him. You have a choice to either listen to his lies that will destroy you or ignore him and keep focusing on Jesus who is the one and only truth. God knows what is best for you. Always.

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!"-Deuteronomy 30:1

Let your faith be bigger than your fear.

  1. When you choose to trust God, amazing and surreal things happen! The fear of God is there, because you begin to realize just how awe-some He is. Indeed the fear of God is good, while the spirit of fear (not from God) is debilitating.
